Monday I was forced to attend a work function capability test - this is where a couple of physios put me through my paces to gauge my ability to work in the IT environment who currently pay me. It was long and torturous, both the journey to and from, and the couple of hours I spent there.
It resulted in me sleeping the sleep of the dead on Monday night, the first time in a long time I had a long period of uniterrupted slumber.
Tuesday I was very sore and struggled through the day, only to find out our hot water heater had given up the struggle when I got home. This put me in a wonderful mood.
I couldn't sleep once more. And then the first line of a story popped into my head. I tossed and turned and tried to ignore it for a couple of hours, until I finally got up and wrote it down.
That one line turned into a couple of paragraphs.
Today I turned that into nearly two thousand words and the bones of a first chapter - the setting needs work. The characters, all of the main ones, have been introduced through interaction. There's blood and guts and action and questions throughout.
It took me a number of sessions on the keyboard to get that far - the back is not co-operating, but I did write, so the spark is still there, which is a good thing.
